"Better than carrying around half dozen books" - ★★★★★
Review by digbop - Version 4.9.1 - Jan 19, 2017
This is a wonderful and eminently useful app. Rather than hauling around all your 'fake' and 'real' books, if you have the .pdf's, you're set to play.

Review by Qyhn6257 - Version 4.9.1 - Jan 14, 2017
Once you figure out that you have to scan your fake/real books, and, if they are not in the list already, you'll have to index them, everything works just fine. It's great that you can find different versions of the same tune, so you can choose the one with the best changes. Or the biggest chord font size…:-)
Now, with the addition of transposable tunes, this app is perfect for note-reading musicians who have to find a piece instantly...
Thank you.

Review by Kyoung21b - Version 4.9.1 - Jan 10, 2017
This is a great app that is useful to musicians in so many ways. As someone who can memorize reasonably well, I am nonetheless not the savant who can recall any obscure piece at the drop of a hat. This app provides opportunities for mortals like me where previously those opportunities were only available to such savants. Not to mention that I no longer require a tow truck to get all the charts I might need to workshops. I'd love to see a couple of additional features (e.g. linking to recordings even when charts aren't in a set list) but overall the set of features is more than most of us could hope for in an app.

Review by NOLA Drummer - Version 4.9.1 - Jan 10, 2017
This is the ultimate tool for harmony, melody, rhythm, etc. From fake books to your own music lead sheets or scores. You can add them all. The learning curve can be tough to navigate at first, but the forums are great and helpful. Once set-up you will be amazed at how great this tool is for your performances and career.
"Every musician's best friend!" - ★★★★★
Review by Jimbolayaa - Version 4.9.1 - Jan 9, 2017
What you get with this app is solid, user friendly app to manage all your jazz, blues and even classical and pop music charts, including sheet music. I've tried and purchased other apps and this app is my all-time favorite and main app. You get most of the realbooks of jazz standards and you can update your library with your personal collection. I used to carry 2 or 3 realbooks to gigs. That's passé!
Now, I can import my own pdfs. I can also transpose popular jazz standards, and with newer updates, I can practice my favorite chops with iTunes play along from within the app. The latest update was genius!!!
Above all, this app was created by a fellow musician for other musicians. Unlike other apps published by giant corporations, Phil Smith takes the time to send relevant emails regarding updates without all the ads and enticement to pay for useless add-on. And he's always taking suggestions to improve the app. Download this app and show your love!

Review by Jmilits - Version 4.9.1 - Jan 9, 2017
Bought the app for xmas and love it! Primarily got it for landscape mode 2-page view which also allows you to turn pages one at a time, unlike other apps that only turn in pairs.
The flexibility of managing set lists with a mix of bookmarks and indexes (built in and custom) is also unique and very powerful.
The time investment to set everything up to your liking is high, but well worth it. The transposable chord charts are a great bonus, and I would love to see transposable lyric+chord charts (like Ultimate Guitar app) to really complete the feature set for all types of gigs. Others have requested this too on the support forum, which by the way is extremely helpful and valuable.
Overall, great stuff - thank you!

Review by Fanhoop - Version 4.9.1 - Jan 9, 2017
How do you keep track of your notes, scores and lyrics? As a member of a cover band and over 250 songs in library, I cannot emphasize enough the simplicity and control of creating sets for specific engagements or accessing a song on the fly. A new member of our group, keyboardist, was fumbling through papers for notes and scores during gigs, always needed that big music stand and a light... he finally conceded that that iGigBook was the way to go, bought an iPad Pro and thanks us every time we play. The first time you use iGigBook, you'll wonder why did I wait so long and how did I manage without it?

Review by Fat Fingers Slim - Version 4.9.1 - Jan 9, 2017
For years I've carried briefcases and bags of books to every rehearsal and show. No longer thanks to iGigBook. I scan each new song into my MacBook and transfer the PDF into iGigBook, building a good sized library. A quick search finds any song - or arrangement. The new features, especially allowing me to see 2 pages at once on my iPad Pro are fantastic. I use the set lists all the time and email them with music to the rest of the band as needed - so convenient and easy. I recommend this product to all musicians.

This is an excellent app as it is. I agree with other reviewers about the need for some additional features, but even so, it is very useful at gigs to quickly find a song or create a set list. I would like to see the "Open in" function on an individual chart basis, but even so, I recommend it! It beats carrying a suitcase of books to a gig.

Review by GreyMike - Version 4.9.1 - Jan 8, 2017
I stand by my original review from several years ago, the app keeps getting better and I have used this on all my gigs since installing it, it is indispensable and just keeps getting better!
Original review:
OK, after many hours of work, I now have a solid working relationship with this app, and I can recommend it enthusiastically to any working players with a modicum of techno-chops. I now have 41 active indexes with 40 books present (waiting on #41 to arrive) and in working order, and it's clear to me that this is going to change my gig workflow forever.
My advice to anyone starting to work with this app is to read the Quick Start Guide, and all the "7 Steps" info and every link from that page before beginning.
Although there is a good deal of up-front work to do, it's no actual fault of the program, but the integrity of the data it's designed to manage. It's an amazing app and going forward will provide excellent service to working players who are willing to invest the time.
Many thanks to the developer, I am sure that this app will just keep getting better!

I've been working with iGigbook now for 6 years, and I find it to be the ultimate tool for organizing and indexing digital fake books. While the initial learning curve is still rather steep, it is worth the effort. I've lost count of how many improvements have been made since I first bought this app. It just keeps getting better! I play a regular weekly gig backing open mic vocals, and iGigBook is perfect for this. Any song in any key could come up, and the transposable chord charts come in very handy. Many of my musical colleagues use this app.

This app is amazing. The investment of buying this app far outweighs the cost. Once I got the app, it was easy to follow instructions and I found multiple fake book pdfs online, which I quickly added to the app. There is also a forum where people can ask questions, or you can send an email and get personal help. I sent an email about an error I found in one of the indexes. I got an email back within a few hours telling me the problem was fixed. You can also search any song within the fake books you have downloaded, without using internet. Amazing and brilliantly designed features over all and fantastic tech support.

This is an amazingly useful app. I have bought many face books in my life. They are clunky, and you need a suitcase if you want to bring several of them to a gig. Over the years I found most of those books in PDF form for free on the internet. I don't feel bad about using them, because I did by the actual book after all. With iGigBook I can now have all those books, and my own music with me on every gig on my iPad. Not only that, but the smart index system of iGigBook makes it super easy and fast to do a search across all books in seconds. AMAZING! How did we live without it?!?

Review by nachobass - Version 4.1 - Apr 4, 2016
There's an issue that has been the same since the beginning.. It happens that if you are browsing through a book and decide to add a song to a set list (using the plus sign in the upper right corner), the app adds the song, but it automatically takes you out of where you were and into the book's index, as if you had pressed the 'back' button.. Why does it assume that you want to exit? It makes it become annoying when you want to continue doing what you where doing, because you actually have to scroll the index and get back to the page you were, and only then you can keep doing what you were doing.. It adds a few seconds each time..
It would be much better and make more sense if the app simply added the song to the list and stayed right where you are..
Hope you can fix it!!!

Review by Steve D Sax - Version 4.0.1 - Jan 27, 2016
This is a must-have app for all musicians. I bought my iPad just for this app and now I'm gonna get the 12" iPad Pro for the bigger display and 2-page landscape viewing. Not only is it the perfect gigging tool, but it's your go-to searchable repository for those ungainly stacks of music books that you would normally have to tediously sift through to find a tune. I've used several of the many functions and they all work as designed. I have a PC, so I use iTunes to add books. You just select the app on iTunes and drag-n-drop your books into the file list - easy. Indexes can be created with an online interface or by using a bulk-load function that accepts a simple comma-delimited file. Of course the real value here are the 75+ indexes that are already built for you! There's also a nifty set-list tool that allows you pull tunes from across books to make a "mini-virtual" book for a particular gig. Okay, I've seen some complaints and some of the functions can use some improvement, but really, when you walk into a gig with just your ax and one small iPad any set-up inconvenience becomes insignificant. I dream of having every tune in the world memorized like some pros but until then iGigBook will do just fine, thank you.

iGigbook is well designed and easy to use. Having the option of searching all your books or paging through a particular book is great, not to mention not having to carry all those heavy books to every gig. Installing books in pdf format (iGigbook provides the index for MANY of the popular books) is easy (the second time), and the ability to create an index for "books" you have created is important. It's terrific, especially when teamed with dropbox for constantly changing folders of individual song .pdf's. Best app investment I have made!
If you don't want to fool with installing books in .pdf format, the provided transposable cord charts (1300or so) cover 95% of ths songs I play.
New version adds some nice features for my iPad pro. Not' sure what I would do without it!

The latest update which offers landscape mode on the iPad Pro where two sheet music pages can be viewed side by side - and scrolled to open additional pages makes this already indispensable application even more so. As a gigging and jamming musician, I find that iGig Book is worth the full price of an iPad - even if that is the only app that I used. I am never lost when someone calls an unfamiliar tune - and no longer need to carry around multiple fake books and waste time looking for songs.
This feature was the main reason I bought my new iPad Pro and no regrets.

I use this for all of my gigs and have been doing so for several years now. It is stable, reliable and easy to use. I play 2 to 5 gigs a week and almost every night, both solo work and combos. The annotation tools are great . . . simple little things that make a big difference . . . like adding a note on D.S. for a particular singer or highlighting hard-to-read repeats and such.
Take some time to get to know it. I sat with it and set it up and used the help forums for a couple hours on a single evening and have been using it straight up ever since.

I have been using iGigBook, on the gig, for over a year now. Two days after downloading it, I wished to get my money back. If you download it today and expect to use it tonight at the gig, forget it! There is a big learning curve here, let alone time assembling your books from scanning, downloading, etc.
So is it worth all the time and, yes, frustration? The answer is a resounding YES!!!!
This program is simply awesome. First and foremost IT WORKS. It is dependable and hasn't failed me on the job. It's my workhorse and I couldn't be doing what I'm doing without it. The updates have been relatively seamless, which is a BIG plus.
The support has been amazing. The developer and/or the forum has been very supportive and answered all my questions quickly and gracefully.
I usually find out that the limitations to the program ends up being my limitation to understanding an aspect of the program. For instance, I was frustrated that I couldn't move a song from one set list to another, only to find out that I can under set list management (but not obvious at first).
Take your time with it and it will reward you.
When taking requests on the gig, I tell people I may not know the song but likely my iPad does! There's no way I could be playing all the songs I'm playing on the gig without my prompts from iGigBook. A program of this nature is why I bought my iPad and iGigBook has fit its purpose perfectly.

Review by Jazztenor87 - Version 2.40 - Jun 14, 2014
I play at gigs where unfamiliar tunes are often called and have to know the melody/form, so this app is invaluable. iRealB is great for practicing and pulling up the changes, but this app organizes and catalogs real/fake book collections, providing you with the critical details of a tune on the gig.
A few favorite features are the ability to index the transposed (Bb, Eb, and bass clef) books, search functions, a track record of reliability, and set lists.
A few suggestions to make the app better: a more intuitive set list interface, landscape mode, and more intuitive annotating (a la For Score).
If you are considering purchasing this app, do it. Musicians of all genres will benefit from its features.

iGigbook is well designed and easy to use.

I can’t believe I missed this app for so long!! Ive been using an old school freehand music pad pro for jazz gigs for many years & its been reliable but the biggest pain. Cant tell you how many hours Ive spent converting my pdfs to their special format. Finally I decided to check out what was available for the iPad/iphone. This makes life a breeze. Just drop in your fake books and the index included syncs them up. Anybody who has issues is probably just dl bad copies and not looking at real books & scanning them themselves as Ive had no issues with my extensive collection. Not only that but the developer just included a new way to sync/convert the cd-rom real book editions, within a few days of me asking if he could include a way. Amazing quick service! HIGHLY RECOMMEND :-)

Review by Jazztenor87 - Version 2.0 - Apr 28, 2014
Though I play most tunes by memory on jazz gigs, this app is invaluable for reading the melody on unfamiliar tunes that get called or requested for a special dance.
A few favorite features:
-ability to annotate on the music
-transposition if you have the books in different keys
-search function that finds the tune in every one you have loaded
-forums to download indexes to more books.
The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 are: interface and no landscape mode.
A great app. Buy it and look good when you can play that one unfamiliar tune on a gig like a boss.

This is 'the' gig app. There is no competition. I couldnt imagine going back to paper....and it also gives a significant advantage over other tablets or laptops that pull up music from pdfs. Once you load in pdf copies of any of the books it has indexed, and it links together all of them for easy mass search feature, or a simple browse. you can get any tune you have can be up in seconds. If you have the pdf in different keys C/Eb/Bb, you can lump them all together to switch quickly, even in the middle of the song. Huge for people doubling on instruments, or trying to play it higher/lower for vocals.
The new annotation option is elegant but missing some important things, i expect this to improve quickly. You can highlight, erase, and write in performance notes though very nicely. Music notation stamps are lacking. A bit clunky, but does the job.
New linking to iTunes allows for easily incorporating backing tracks to Gigs or practice sessions. Titles must match exactly or iGigBook won't find it though. A fuzzy find feature would improve this problem.
My first review for this program was many versions ago, and I gave it 3 stars. It has since very well earned its 5 stars for me. The cons are real, and important for some more than others. In the end though, this program has no rival, and it hasn't failed me yet.
PROS:
A growing list of indexes to popular (and less popular) fake books. THIS IS HUGE and unrivaled. This is why you buy this program.
Excellent support for Eb,Bb,and Bass clef versions!!!
Quickly create set lists for on gig use.
Basic annotation/highlighting that's very easy to use.
Fly between different versions of the same song to choose your favorite.
A transpose menu lets you switch to a different key of the same song, as long as you own a PDF in the other key.
Linked to music for backing tracks in gig or practice
Developer is active and fixes errors and bugs quickly when told of them.
CONS:
Program is a little rough around the edges in silly places, not the streamlined programming you get used to on a Mac, but improving. Developer is not very open to working on these rough edges.
No decent crop feature. Would be nice when the screen is so small already.
No landscape mode. Sometimes getting closer is important.
No half page turns...booooooo....makes two pagers harder to time.
There are many unsupported or older version books...developer should prioritize this but it's back burner.

This app is the number one reason I bought my iPad and I do not regret it.
Importing the PDFs manually on the computer by dragging them into the app's specific file window is a pain. So is the process of finding out what to name the PDFs and making them active or inactive by means of an offsite location. Files should be easier to import via email or iBooks.
All of my musician friends are extremely jealous of me and this app. They constantly ask to use it during jam sessions.

I've been aware of this app for awhile but did not own a device to install it on. I do however have quite a few fake books and was constantly carrying around at least two to school, jams, and gigs. They can be bulky and heavy and a general pain especially when you are also carrying an upright bass. So once I realized what this app did, sheet music manager, I knew that it would benefit me greatly. I kept my eye on it and once I was able to buy a device I purchased the app and had it installed with some books linked within an hour. It takes time to get fully set up but worth it to not have to carry around several phone book sized tomes. Having all of my music so easily accessible outweighs any negatives associated with having to do some work ;). I actually like working with the app and have a couple of books that do not have indexes provided so I'll have to create them and I look forward to doing that. A bit of a sidetrack from practice but it will be helpful to have all of my music available at the touch of finger, searchable by title, composer, the ability to create and share set lists, link an audio file from iTunes, and more.
Help and info for the app is on the website and forum and it appears that the developer himself is all over the forum answering questions.
Works very well. Thanks.

I've had a chance to use the igigbooamazing app on several occasions, and it has proven to be an easy to use, fast, and compact reference. The only problem I encountered in the beginning was that the index did not always match the actual pages of the songs, but a friend helped me fix that. iGigbook is well designed and easy to use.

I Lovei gig book the means to have the chords to many popular standards of jazz and the ability to instantaneously transpose keys is great. My only suggestion is to add the melodies , with the abilities to transpose those instantaneously also , and also add the lyrics too , with all of these mediums. Put together on one lead sheet , preferably on one piece or "page "with no page turns (if possibly . The ability to have the chords ,AND MELODIES ,AND THE LYRICS ALTOGETHER on one succinct sheet (I.e. "page") preferrably with no page turns and ALSO THE ABILITY , still maintained ,TO TRANSPOSE THE CHORDS AND MELODIES , would be a fantastic addition to iGigBook book makin it absolutely the best medium for jazz musicians to play, any song with any other artist on any key , with melody and lyrice in tact and interchangeably transposable , thank you , still, as is , it is pretty great :). This app does exactly what it says, but make sure you notice that YOU HAVE TO GET THE FAKE BOOKS YOURSELF! It does not provide them. Now, this is not a problem, because you can find them easily enough online. However, not all PDF files are accurate with the table of contents in iGig. For instance, when I look up a song in one of my fake books in iGig, it takes me to the wrong song. The PDF has an extra page, so iGig is taking you to the right place but the PDF is incorrect. Other than that, it works fantastic!!

The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 is I can't understand why they won't enable orientation to change to landscape. This is the app that makes my iPad worth the money! You can carry your PDF fakebooks on the iPad and have a searchable database of all the tunes in them - click on the title (and version) you want and the app takes you straight to the sheet music you are looking for! I'm a singer and I know people have said the transposable tunes are great for singers, but I find the most useful thing for singers is that you can take pictures (or do scans) of your charts (in your key), convert them to PDF & combine them as a book (in a different program) and index them as well so you can always have your book with you as well. I teach singing as well and it's totally useful to be able to just grab my iPad and run into the City with as many jazz charts as I like. They have all the common fakebooks indexed (and some of the not so popular ones too) or you can create an index (which will be searchable by song) of whatever obscure fakebooks you need to have. Technology has finally caught up with what I need and it's this amazing app. Warning: Like a lot of powerful programs, setting up can require some trial and error and looking at the instructions (provided via forums), but I got it down pretty quick. Probably my favourite app. I had some questions about set-up and was contacted via email in response within 24 hours. They were polite and informative.

Love this app! Though there are other apps that are similar that allow for importing PDF's, creating and emailing set list, etc, etc, this is the only app that I'm aware of that allows for indexing...which to me, is the real power behind iGigBook. If you have (say) 20 books in iGigBook and you want to see all versions of "Giant Steps", search by song and iGigBook will list them. I've already created an index of a book I received and the PDF lays in the index beautiful. Make no mistake, there are several other killer features in this app as well! No more carrying real books to gigs! Well worth the price! Now go learn Giant Steps!

The igig book app is one of the best things I have found.
I have three different formats I gig with- a single, duo, and a band. I use a holder on a mic stand with my iPad, and have all my sets and songs at my finger tips. -Way better than hauling around my big old three ring binder.
One of the coolest things about it is that I don't need a music stand or a light. I wouldn't even use that stuff for a band!
I get comments all the time on how cool this deal is.
No one else around where I live uses anything like this, and it truly sets me apart from my competition.

Once you get this app up an running, it is fantastic. My band members are in awe, especially the old jazz guys that are fumbling with stacks of sheet music. I especially dig the 1200 Chord Charts that you can transpose on the spot which is especially smooth when you need to accommodate a horn player ( I play jazz guitar) It is fast and easy to search any Real Book standard within seconds! You have to be a bit tech-savy to get it up and running, but just read the Help files and search the blogs about this app and you are in business. As with nearly anything... RTFM! One request: Add more books so that I can sync the rest of my collection. I love this app and it is worth every cent that I paid for it. I can't imagine any cats wanting to get on stage or in a jam session without it.

This app has so far been amazing... once I figured it out. It does take some getting used to at first, but then after that it becomes really easy to use and load.
It comes preloaded with sheet music for several songs, this is a nice feature for some but useless for me. I play original music and write my own charts using the Nashville Number System. So once I removed the preloaded sheet music then it became the perfect app to store my charts and have access to them and be able to modify them quickly.
Loading your charts is easy but a bit time consuming. You can write your charts out on paper then scan them to your computer, load them into iTunes then transfer them to iGigBook. Or another method is to use a note pad app on your iPad for writing your charts. Then transfer your notes from your iPad to you computer, then iTunes, then iGigBook. I use and love this method. There are some great note pad apps out there for writing charts, be sure to check them out.
Once you have all your charts on your computer then becomes really fast to load and unload. I swap out the charts almost every gig depending on which artist I'm working for and I do it quickly.
To me this app is a must have and worth the money, not to mention a tax write off. ;)

Works great! Easy install, excellent online help forum, fast answers from emails. Great features for on-the-gig application. Set list feature, song and composer search are simple to use. Some minor problems with synching and one book crashes, I'm able to improvise and adapt my way around those very minor problems.
Use this app at least once a week on the gig. Bandleader e-mails the nights set lists and I import them right into igig My Scores. Only complaint I have is the set index doesn't come with the song pages. One improvement would be to include a song's number of pages. I try to avoid songs with multiple pages. I haven't purchased the page turning foot switch yet.
Highly recommend this app for all gigging musicians!

I'm a gigging bass player, semi-professional, doing a lot of casual gigs on jazz combos and working with a regular band. This Jim a really great tool. It took me a while to get it set up, but online support was excellent and it works really well. I had a bunch of fake books, and all of them turned out to be available as PDFs for use in iGigBook. Now I've got several thousand charts at my fingertips. Very cool tool, and I can leave my battered fake books at home

This app is awesome! I have played numerous gigs with just my ipad and a music stand. Upload your own Finale or Sibelius sheet music as well as complete anthologies of fake books available online. I like to prepare various playlists for practice and gigs. It takes a little while to get used to, but it's worth it. You must bookmark and label your favorite pages to have easy access later on. It's also very east to download files from IMSLP and other music score websites.

There are a bunch of cool apps, but very few that actually fundamentally change how you do things. This app allows almost instant access to any piece of sheet music , without having to drag out books, scour PDF indexes, all the things that slow down the gig. As everyone says, it takes some jumping through hoops, especially if the PDFs being used are not complete. You may have to page through an entire PDF to find a missing page that is throwing off the index, but it is time worth spent. If you have a network connection, you can even use voice control to call up songs. Awesome.

The only criticism is the interface could be nicer.
It's very very good, but the amazing features that this program could be presented a bit sleeker and navigation be improved.
That said , it's dead simple. And more than well deserves 5 stars. The app store needs more brilliant innovation like this for real musicians. What this app does is exactly why I bought an iPad.

Very good app for a working musician. Takes a bit of time to set it up, but if you follow the good instructions on their forum once you have it set up it couldn't be easier to use. I had all my books and all my personal charts loaded in a matter of an hour.
As a working bassist I've used some other programs that were just changes, but frankly I can usually figure out changes anyway, I want the charts for the melodies if I don't know the song. I had all the charts in .pdf but it was clunky to pull up in iBooks. Can't wait for my next gig Friday because simply by typing a part of a word I can pull up a chart out of thousands in a matter of seconds. Great stuff!

About 2 months a bought this program and not understanding how the program worked. The instructions were vague and (especially the 1200 transposable chords).
I have 3 PDF programs that can't do what this program do.
The good
A) downloading fake books 5 stars
B) adding songs and transposing them if necessary 5 stars.
C) finding the 1200 transposing songs 3 stars.
Suggestions
The fireman's jazz fake book's index isn't indexed correct.
Add the bass clef real books to your book list.

Review by saxywaxy - Version 1.70 - Jun 1, 2012
This is 'the' gig app. There is no competition. I couldnt imagine going back to paper....and it also gives a significant advantage over other tablets or laptops that pull up music from pdfs. Once you load in pdf copies of any of the books it has indexed, and it links together all of them for easy mass search feature, or a simple browse. you can any tune you have can be up in seconds.
While its massive index makes the program indispensible, to be objective here, it is missing some useful things other music management programs have, and they are pretty important.
It IS still young though, and as such, many of those few missing features are promised to come . Once the later versions have these implemented, its a 5 star program that has everything.
CONS:
Program is a little rough around the edges in silly places, not the streamlined programming you get used to on a Mac, but improving
Developer needs to work on people skills...(has been a lot better in the last few months)
No decent crop feature. Would be nice when the screen is so small already.
No landscape mode. Sometimes getting closer is important.
No half page turns...booooooo....makes two pagers harder to time.
There are many unsupported books...nothing new getting added anytime soon apparently.
No one has formed a forum group to work on collecting unofficial indexes...

I turned it iGigBook after iReal Book and others. I was carryiNg around 2 files of sheet music and as these became larger, heavier and just unwieldy an iPad source was the answer.
After over 20 years of jazz, and several years of ceilidh and ukulele bands, I now carry them on one device in one app.
The fact that there are so many preindexed real and not so real books makes keeping your full repertoire in one place possible and not so difficult.
I have added over 200 tunes not in a book, or perhaps only 1 or 2 in a book, plus the ukulele song books in PDFs.
IGigBook is kept fluent and adaptable as OSX changes (too many changes I hear many say).
As more uSe it (including more members oF my bands - all 24 oF them) the more suggestions for improvement and development are made.
I have contributed very little to this process I am ashamed to say, but it still keeps pace with my needs, something the alternativeS did not.
I can see the band and me carrying on for years to come as committed iGigBook devotees.

Really useful software for the Gigging musician especially if you're into jazz and the standards. You do have to source your own pdfs of the Real and Fake books. And not all are properly mapped. However, it's great having loads of music to hand. Key changing is easy on chord sheets. Changing key on scores isn't possible as far as I am aware. This would be useful in future. Page turning via the iPhone app is a bit difficult to use, it might be better if the iPad camera could be used like Pia Score. Overall though I'd recommend you try it.

If they already have an existing index code your pretty much good to go. Where page indexes are slightly off there is a facility to offset.👌🏾 Putting your songbooks in is easy though creating an index requires you to be a little methodical and patient, it is a reasonable way to make the app flex the way YOU want it. Excellent! Thank you, thank you for saving my back. No more lugging Real books around and no more struggling with iReals' index. How brilliant to be able call up ALL versions of a song from multiple books, no more arguing about versions. This could be a band saver :-). So, off to the gig with a song in my heart and iGig in my hand...

This is a really useful app for either helping with the chords for tunes you don't know well, or for having a set list in front of you (and the chords as well) listing every tune in the key in which it is to be played.
It's a fairly big operation to get things set up with all your fake books listed (including the ones that you have compiled yourself) but it is SO worth it.
No question. 5 stars.

Took time to set up (renaming and importing pdfs, adding blank pages to make the index line up!) which can be a bit of a pain, but I've got it all done and well worth putting the time in. Now about twenty real books indexed perfectly, search by song, create set lists.

Since playing with a jazz guitarist who was using this app, I decided to give it a go. Excellent decision - no more paper-heavy folders on my music stand. Neat, clear, easy to use (even for an 'older' user like me), it has made me less anxious about finding the right music and I no longer have to keep several paper different versions. Have been using it for gigging for 18 months and love it! Took me a while to work out how to save the music in a different key, but it was easy really. Definitely recommended.

This app is brilliant for musicians and practically everyone I know is using it. Great for putting all your fake, real and whatever else books in one place. You can get you gigs all sorted out and pass on to the band via the app. You can now add a few notes where you like, but it's limited to a few times, so more on this option please. One big issue is that the last few updates have been making this thing crash, especially after flipping between material. Please fix and then it's perfect.

Review by Non-US - Version 2.0 - Apr 18, 2014
This is where all my gig music is now. At the gig it is really easy to use - both for running through a set and for quickly pulling up the music for any random song.
Excellent at the gig but have to knock off a star because the pre-gig setup is not at all user-friendly. All aspects of setup are very fiddly and the requirement to use the website to set up indexes is tedious - especially as the website is also not very easy to use.
Recent upgrades have added being able to play matching music which sounds good but I've hardly ever used it apart from to see how it works.
I'm quite techy and have the patience to work through the difficult setup processes - but I don't know many other musicians that would. So my advice if you want to increase use/sales is to focus on making the setup more user-friendly before adding features.

One star off for lack of much annotation functionality (I use pdf expert for this) - hope this is improved in further updates.

This is a first-rate app for carrying "fake books" around in a compact form. It also has the bonus feature (very useful when needed) of offering 1000 tunes than can be transposed at will. Great for anyone who doubles on instruments in different keys, or works with singers who aren't comfortable in the usual key.
The learning curve is a little steep right at the beginning, but once the answers are found the whole process is intuitive and smooth-running. The help pages (on the dedicated website) are very clear, and easily accessed via the help button in the app.
Really worth having, and excellent value.

Yes. If you can get PDFs with all the pages sorted, or know how to sort out a PDF yourself, then the coding and page offset process is relatively simple... And then this app is brilliant. So I now love it. But it took quite a while to sort things out. If you are not technically minded, you'll need a friend to work it out for you.
Now I certainly will leave all my heavy real books at home.

There are many reasons why this app shouldn't get 5 stars. The configuration interface is archaic, it really takes a good deal of efforts to get everything configured, the number of syncs a day are limited, there is some sort of timer slowing down the process to upload complete indexes slowing down the setup process considerably ... But once taken the effort to get everything set up properly this app does it's task brilliantly and all is forgiven. No more heavy fake books to carry around.
And if one day the interface can be improved, I'll happily give it 6 stars.

I downloaded the app to help me through a couple of festive gigs. Initially it required a little puzzle solving to link the indexing of the books to the ones I added to the app via iTunes. The secret is to rename the book you wish to add, so that it matches up with the name assigned to it on the iGigBook web page. I discovered this when I tried to add the free charts, from the US Jazz Studies offered as a free download. If memory serves me correctly, iGigBook 'Help' tells you to add the charts named 'Jazz 1200' to iTunes This is wrong and should be corrected. The correct procedure is to log in (register) through the app to the website via the settings tab, to the Content Manager. Go to page 4 and you will see the correct index code for the FREE charts.
Look for the FREE charts, listed as JAZZ CHORD CHARTS-TRANSPOSE under BOOK INDEX NAME, and the index (jazz1200p1) opposite, under BOOK INDEX CODE. YOUR DOWNLOADED FILE HAS TO BE RENAMED TO - jazz1200p1 or the index system in the app won't recognize the charts. This procedure of renaming has to be applied to any PDF charts you wish to add to the app in your iPad. The system works like a charm and the Transpose function is awesome. In addition to the Jazz Charts you also get the Holiday Charts. I don't have the iPhone version, but there might be similar problems.
These instructions should be supplied with the app and I find it incredible that the developers have omitted them. You can't seriously expect customers to rate your app if they find it impossible to use.
PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP!!!!
I hope my rant is of use to anyone who needs it. Otherwise an amazing app and a steal at the price. Many thanks.

Excellent app can't moan about the price - which is considerably less than the price of one real book. Mismatched pages can easily be fixed by removing the blank pages some people include when creating the PDF- the app only works as well as the PDF s you give it! Set list is a really handy feature, page turning is a breeze , tap top /bottom of screen to go back/forwards. The book index is a little clunky to edit but is pretty comprehensive - pleasantly surprised to find the pat metheny songbook on there! Really big advantage over ireal app is having the dots there rather than just a set of changes - a must when its an unfamiliar tune - or you need to play the head! All in all the best there is out there at mo!

That done......it's amazing. Organise set lists, browse by song of composer....email set lists WITH PDF CHARTS ATTACHED to band members.

Tech support is first class and very quick. One slight issue was with the webpage control panel, Safari doesn't seem to support this too well but worked fine on Chrome.
Only negative is that it will put me off learning heads to standards because I will have them all in front of my on my iPad! Great app and well worth the £

Using the app requires some learning and even now I am slightly confused about "offset" settings but this is my fault for not spending time understanding how to fine-tune the app. Unique app for specific purpose of easy access to library of music PDF files (gig/real books). Now much improved with annotation/highlighting and up to the standard of other similar apps, but iGigBook still the only one-stop solution for live use.

An excellent app which allows me to view my fakebooks on my iPad. It comes with ready indexes for most of them. The only thing stopping it from being five stars for me is the inability to create my own indices for my own music and also when I book mark a page it comes out in the general search as an orphaned index rather than referring to the actual PDF title. other than that, it is a must have and I have no regrets purchasing it - and neither will any of you who use fakebooks.

Review by brockham music - Version 1.70 - May 2, 2012
yes, the website where the indexes are is "unconventional" in design and functionality and yes, sometimes the offset does not work exactly (though I think that is due to the way the fakebook PDF file was put together, rather than the app) on one book.
however, there's now no need to lug around a stack of books and no need to search through each one until you find the tune that's been called. Great app, well worth the cost, and I'm sure it will get better.
thanks for the new annotation capability!

Review by Ger Rees - Version 1.59 - Jan 18, 2012
This app saves me huge amounts of time and bother. It's a fantastic idea that's well implemented.
I use iReal b at gigs because it's easier to skim read chords than lead sheets, but iGigBook is ideal for gigging if you prefer to have the lead sheet!
The ability to search all twenty odd realbook's on my iPad for a tune rather than do it the old way (look in the index for each one individually) is so much easier and more convenient that it alone makes the app worth every penny...
But...
Don't expect to click "install" and be ready to gig.
Firstly you will need to spend an hour (or more) in google to find the realbook pdf's you need. (Not included in app.)
You also need to make sure they are named correctly.
(Full details on developer website.)
That said this app is well worth the setup time, if you're a jazz musician then this is a must have app for your iPad.

If you're a gigging musician this is a total no-brainer! It will take you a while to set it up (it took me a better part of 2 hours to get it all up and running) but it was so worth the effort!
Finding tunes is virtually instant as opposed to other pdf music readers! There are still a few kinks here and there but no more than other readers I've used so far!
The app pays for itself with all the time you save!

.... It'd be great if you could input PDF's or even epub books from emails and maybe connect the iPhone page turner over wi-fi (this would most likely allow for a better, less fiddly connection experience!) I appreciate the amount of work that's gone into this so thanks!. (As an aside, this is the only App I've been able to find that allows page turning for books via a single switch on the iPhone. This is a useful feature for people with limited mobility, and is a possible alternative to expensive page turners or switch systems for devices like kindles!) :)

Hello,
I purchased the iGigBook today and am very happy with the result.
It takes a while (took me some 2 hours) to sync and rename all my books, adjust the page offset, get the 1200 songs for which iGigBook offers transposable chords, etc. but the result is wonderful. I can now search for a song and can immediately see the different versions I have in my real/fake books and add the ones i like to a setlist.
I love for instance that I can now switch between two versions of a song easily (for instance the same song in a new realbook and the real vocal book; i like to have lyrics for singing but like the ledgibility of the new real book more).
I doubted a while before purchasing the app because I saw on the iGigBook forum some people had troubles with the application.I am now very glad I bought it. It takes a bit of time to get everything set up but everything is explained on the forum and does work. And think of the time it saves me trying to look for the right version of a song during rehearsals or on stage.
I'll be off and create some setlists now :-).

It's a great tool, especially for the gigging musician or for anyone who wants all the charts in one easy container. With the added luxury of being able to easily look up stuff, to organize it in playlists and even to share it with fellow musicians for rehearsal or gigs.
What would be needed is that the publishing companies embrace this app and make their fakebooks (as an in-app purchase, maybe) available. Musicians know this will not be free, we'll have to pay for the copyright and so. But it will be so worth it...
Nevertheless, a fantastic piece of app for the serious musician. Too bad for the stubborness of the publishing companies who forego an opportunity to make the music available and to make some money, :))

And its a very simple , but smart idea, linking a searchable database to the pages of unsearchable, scanned pdf's of the real- and fakebooks we all have.
An Ipad , and IGIG installed on it, a dream come true!!!! No more books to carry, and finding the tunes you want to play, just as you would want to, tap the name, and there they are.

IGigBook is the only app I know of that indexes my whole collection of real / fake book PDFs so that I can pull up any of thousands of charts in five seconds. I can go on stage with a set list of charts on both iPad and hard copy. Then, if there is a request or last minute change, I can pull up the chart instantly and play. Until I learn all 14,000 jazz standards by heart, iGigBook is the best way to play jazz. The alternative is to bring several kilos of photocopies to each practice and gig.

If you happen to own PDF copies of several musicians' fake books, iGigBook is an incredibly handy tool. By carefully following instructions, you can copy your fake books onto your iPad, and once done, you can search for songs by name or subset of name in the title. Often the same song appears in several different books. If a few of your books fail to bring up the correct song, you can add or subtract pages from the indexing scheme until the right song pops up. Now you can read the chords and melody of each song and play or practice each song on your instrument, just as you would do from the original print copy of your fake book. This is a well-written tool that I use daily.

Being a musician who often plays with different combos, styles, etc, I decided to try this app and was sure glad I did! Although some of the "competitive" apps out there may have a simpler interface, the power of iGigBook is, in my opinion, top of the heap. With numerous indexes available to the user, the integration of "book-to-title" reference is seamless. Just a note to that regard..it is of high importance that you choose the correct Volume of, say The Real Book, for example. A ton of time has been put into the creation of the "indexes" and the rewards will be obvious when you start digging in deep with iGigBook. The inclusion of the jazz charts being transposable is a bonus! Updates bring new features and greater stability to this wonderful app.

Saw iGigBook while doing a gig last summer. Decided immediately that I needed it. Took a bit of work and reading a few help screens to load all my real books, but well worth it. Can access songs in seconds. Had to contact tech support once - got a speedy response. Always nice when that happens :) One of my real books has a couple of extra pages - my edition doesn't match the database edition, so it's out of sync after the first few pages, so I'll have to either edit the pdf or just remember to page down a couple pages if I get the wrong song.

Very good package that avoids fumbling through several Fake Books for a tune. Carry a suitcase of books on your Ipad. A lot lighter! Very handy if you play with different musical groups and variable repertoire of music.
Now for the less good news...the Setup and learning curve.
You need to upload your pdf Fake Books to the IPad and rename them to the IGig naming standard, and link up to the IGig Website. The page offset number is also challenging because your sources of fake book pdf files may vary for the same book title. If you get the offset incorrect, you land on the wrong page (but close). Also lands on a wrong page if there are unexpected in-between scanned pages. Can't blame IGig for that !
I still recommend this package because it beats searching through hard copies..Go for it but be prepared for a setup period. Don't try this the night before a gig...

Igigbook has rescued me and my band from having to deal with and maintain a hundred paper charts. Between it and Dropbox, the whole job of managing our homemade charts has been greatly simplified. It also cuts down on onstage clutter - iPads on short mike stands look a lot better than big books on music stands and don't obscure the musicians nearly as much. The ability to index PDFs of selected published fake books is a bonus. I give it four stars instead of five due to its cumbersome online interface.

Today I finally indexed my fake books and I'm amazed at how fast the search feature works. I'm going to be using it on a gig tomorrow so I'll know better then. The transposing chord charts are a beautiful feature. I hope more will be added to that library. A snag I encountered was when I was trying to build a set list. I made my set list and the next time I opened it I only had two songs in it. I'm not sure what's going on there but that was annoying. However the speed of the search function makes the set list function moot.
The only complaint with the search function is that it doesn't seem to search my personal scores. I have to remember what charts are in the fake books and which ones I had to import individually.
Well worth the cost.

For the working musician, this is an excellent alternative to lugging around standard fake books, simple arrangements, even original sheet music. With the addition in version 1.7 of score annotation (adding highlighted text notes to your music), the app is complete. A rare and added benefit is the high level of responsiveness, support, and frequent updates and improvements from the developer. If you're a player, buy an iPad just to use this app!

Highly recommend this app to all who play am instrument and perform live on stage with the ease of all your music at a swipe of your finger ..... A must app for all musicians. Peter P

Review by funk_in4 - Version 1.58 - Dec 19, 2011
I perform many gigs that require me to bring along a fake book, and the standard book in use is the Real Book. As any who use it can attest, it is not only extremely thick and unwieldy, it also tends to get very worn and difficult to use.
iGigBook has literally changed my gig preparation and made using fake charts on the bandstand incredibly easy and unbelievably efficient, both in terms of space needed for charts (I use an iPad) and how quickly charts can be accessed. There are dozens of indexes available for the app, and I have many of the fake books that are pre-indexed by the app writer. After loading all of the files into my iPad according to instructions, I am able to access any of the song files using multiple search formats, literally bringing charts to the screen within seconds of the song being called on the bandstand. I couldn't conceivably carry the 16 or 17 fake books that I own to a gig at one time, but now I can have them all at my fingertips. I haven't tried all of the feature of the app yet, but so far it has been amazingly useful and without a glitch. I'll update as I delve further into its capabilities.
Wow-well, after many months I am pleased to say that iGigBook has been amazing to have as a resource on every jazz date-and many R&B dates- that I have performed on. The updates have kept it very fresh and functional. Thanks for providing what has become the most useful app that I have in my iPad- great work!

While there is some significant effort involved with the initial setup, no other product on the market can do what this app can do, and that is index and provide the song you are looking for in seconds on a gig which includes the melody line, and lyrics. The ability to respond to any request immediately is also a plus. A fraction of the weight of my regular gig binder, back lit and easy to read..i'm never going back......great support from the developer if you have technical issues too.

Works fine just as a gig book as long as you provide the pdf-files yourself.
They could make it easier and simpler to add and edit book indexes, for example from a simple text file containing song names and page numbers. And it would be good, if you could save your own edited versions of shared book indexes. Also, an alphabetical list of all songs would be a good addition to the song search tool.

I really like the idea of this app very much and I use it almost every day. I wish though it's user interface would conform more to regular iOS standards (f.e. swiping to delete, open documents in other apps) but once it is all set up (which will make you scratch your head a few times) it works great. Unfortunately I experienced one big f***-up, when all of a sudden some fake books showed nothing but empty pages. The files as such were ok but for some reason iGigbook wasn't able to read them. I had to reinstall the app from scratch and because setting up is not really intuitive all my headaches returned because by now I had of course forgotten the whole set up procedure

Tolle App!

I am grateful for the people who developed this app; I can finally use my iPad for gigs without hassles. It is easy to compile a set list (even though I hope there can be sub-set lists within a set, many people play a few sets a night) and rearrange them on the fly. Some pdf files have to have their page numbers offset again but it is not a big problem, except the Standards Real Book. For future upgrades, I hope it is easier to create a book index for own books.

Although the indexes take a little time to adjust, this is the best app ( I tried a least a dozen) for reading and playing from your digital fake and real books.
it is the only app that can subtract playlist including the PDFs from the songs on the playlist and then can be send by email.
Now it also supports landscape mode.
Do understand you have to find your own content, real book pdfs etc.
Actually: it's the only app I use my iPad for. Since so much is covered by ny iPhone now.
So a clear 5 stars from me.
A Must Have for musicians who really care. Much better then the superficial chords only stuff from the iRealbook Pro app. Music is about melodies remember, not just about chords:)

Makkelijk PDF toevoegen, setlijsten maken. Zeer handig voor de live muzikant.
Zeer veel fakebooks geïndexeerd. Eigen book toevoegen mogelijk.
Duizenden nummer, makkelijk vindbaar in je iPad. De forum instructies lezen een must.

Sommige boeken lopen echter niet helemaal synchroon, maar de meeste hits zijn raak!

Although the indexes take a little time to adjust, this is the best app ( I tried a least a dozen) for reading and playing from your digital fake and real books.
it is the only app that can subtract playlist including the PDFs from the songs on the playlist and then can be send by email.
The only real serious con is the fact that it does NOT supply LANDSCAPE MODE. So many musicians will not be able to use it without reading glasses.
Please developers complete your great job by adding landscape mode and my fifth star is yours.

This app is the reason I bought an iPad. It is easy to load charts from my laptop via iTunes. Once loaded it was quick to select charts into a set list for a gig, and apart from one drawback listed below, it was slick emailing everything to band members when I had finished.
My set list was a mix of scanned charts and typed lyric/chord charts that I saved as PDFs.
I had been a bit worried about the screen size being a bit smaller than A4, but the clear bright screen compensated for that. Just make sure you don't use a small font size; I would recommend at least size 14 font. Courier works better than more modern fonts. Also, making chord names bold helps them stand out from the lyrics.
Although all of the above is sufficient for me to be delighted with this purchase, There are two things that haven't worked well:
1. I was delighted to find 1200 transposable charts were included with the app. However when I included some of these in a set list, they didn't email to band members. Maybe they don't save as true PDFs. If I could overcome this limitation it would greatly improve the value of the app.
2. One of the best features of this app has a bug. After forming a setlist for a gig, the app allows me to email the charts to my band members. However, it only attaches the first page of each chart: MAJOR DRAWBACK; PLEASE FIX.

Used this app at almost all gigs these days. Don't have to carry heavy Real Books along anymore. Being able to transpose standards at the gig has been really useful. No need to carry a music stand light either since the ipad is backlit.
A bit of a learning curve to get begin with, but once it was up and running I take it to every gig.

Hi,
I was not aware of that you had to buy pdf books at some other place. The app works (after some reading and testing) very well. I think it could be good if there could be some advice where to find these pdf books. I bought some books that I can't use with this app (half of them is ok and match the index iGigBook provide).
I also think you should be able to sync your books etc as many times you want (that's not the case today and it's frustrating that someone else decide that). In the start you need to practice and I spent a lot of time learning how to set up everything and make it work.
Overall it's a very strong and good program for music lovers!

I've tried a number of PDF-organizing tools... Some of them are pretty good the task is to handle "every-day-PDF's".
Maintaining a library with several thousands songs takes more!
